The (UKCP) Alpine Coach Level 1 is a pre-requisite for BASI Level 3 ISIA instructor course. It is also the entry level coaching qualification for Snowsports England. This 6 day course combines the Level 1 Coach with an additional 3 days of Race Training.
This official BASI and Snowsport England UKCP Level 1 Coaching Course will be delivered by Mike Barker. Former national team coach and accredited England Snowsport Tutor.
LEVEL 1 COURSE + ADDITIONAL RACE TRAINING
This is a 6 day course combining 3 days of the official Level 1 Course plus 3 additional days of race training.
UKPC ALPINE COACH LEVEL 1
Sunday 28th October to Tuesday 30th October
This is an official Snowsports England and BASI three day course supplemented by a further 3 days of race training with Snoworks - 6 days in total.
HOW WELL DO I NEED TO SKI TO DO THIS COURSE?
Students must be able to carve clean GS turns leaving clean tracks on easy blue piste terrain and ski rhythmical slalom turns showing good speed and control. Students should also be physically fit for the demands of the course.
Designed for working with children (specifically 5-12 years old) and entry standard competitors. Alpine Coach L1 is able to plan and run training sessions appropriate for developing and challenging their athletes’ skills.
There are two main classroom based modules on the course: • Planning a Training Session • Making Difficult decisions
On snow the following content is covered:
• Structuring a training session
• Technical elements of ski racing
• Understanding skill acquisition
• Skill analysis
• Video analysis
• Working with children
Students are assessed on their ability to ski slalom and giant slalom turns on easy blue piste terrain as well as their ability to reflect on their coaching.
Trainee status = Alpine Coach Level 1 + Safeguarding Children + CRB/Disclosure check
Licensed status = Trainee status + Logbook verified + First Aid + Coaching assessment
Qualified Level 1 Coaches will be able to plan and run a training session for young athletes by themselves within a closed environment. They will have experience of course setting from their logged tasks and will have been assessed reviewing and action-planning their own coaching sessions. Throughout the logged tasks, prior to the coaching assessment, L1 Coaches will be assisted by a Mentor Coach (Level 2 Licensed or above).

Wednesday 30th October to Friday 2nd November. Three additional days of race training will be provided combining slalom Giant slalom plus out of the gates performance training.
