Courchevel, All Terrain
Without doubt the most exhilarating and satisfying weeks skiing I have ever done. If you want to gain confidence through learning or having the basics re-confirmed by expert instructors then this is for you. If you want to take your skiing to new levels and shift your comfort zone up several notches then this is definitely for you. Lee's instruction is exceptional. He explains not only what to do but why you need to do it and makes it so simple to understand. Many thanks for a great week, the first of many with Snoworks I hope.

I just wanted to say thank you for a fabulous week of instruction and inspiration on last week’s Off-Piste course in Meribel Motteret. The techniques employed by Snoworks and the energy, enthusiasm and psychology with which they are conveyed made learning them pleasurable and above all great fun. Gareth’s instruction, in particular, was insightful and inspirational. Despite the poor visibility and very variable weather conditions he managed to imbue all of us, in his group, with the confidence and skill to safely ski pitches which might otherwise be well outside our capability, not to mention comfort zone. We were able to apply the techniques on Saturday and with a foot of new powder and despite fairly poor visibility (in the morning) we had a whale of a time. The icing on the cake came with the sunshine in the afternoon.

This was my first snoworks course and I did it on the glacier
at Tignes, with Emma. I can't speak highly enough of this course- it made me look at my skiing in a completely different way. Before this I was a one dimensional skier and the course added several more! It really pushed my skiing up a level- I'm writing this a couple of months later, after just coming back from a week in Banff. I've never skied bumps or off-piste so well, and I'm sure that this is largely down to the work that we did with Emma, learning appropriate techniques for the different terrain types. So
if you're undecided as to whether a snoworks course will be good for you- just do it! I'll definitely be back for more.

I've just got back from a Snoworks backcountry course in St Anton and am still on a total high. We had some of the best days skiing I've ever had (and I've been hacking around for over 20 years!) helped hugely by the Snoworks teaching approach which focuses on simple understandable ideas and, most importantly, works. All of our group improved significantly through the week. On the guiding days our guide managed to find some almost deserted slopes with completely awesome powder - WOW! I can't thank the Snoworks team enough for making the extra effort in so many ways to make the week so special. I will definitely be be booking with Snoworks next year.

On behalf of the whole team we just wanted to thank you for the excellent off-piste training session in Tignes. We all
thoroughly enjoyed it and we are very grateful for the patience and dedication you showed throughout the week. As the organiser, before the course I had been a little worried that the
team might not feel that the extra cost of using Snoworks on our annual training session was worth it. I had no need to be concerned. Comments like 'the best training session ever' and 'if you are organizing another one of these, don't bother to ask me, just book it' abounded. We'll be in touch later in the year about next December's session.

On Huilo Huilo. "An extraordinarily eccentric hotel complex, built by a copper millionaire on his 100,000 hectares of national park rainforest estate. A cross between Gaudi and Tolkien, all in wood: an 8-story waterfall pyramid next to a 10-storey ziggurat. Every room is dressed in unfinished wood; the ziggurat has a full height atrium with a forest tree growing the full 10 storey’s (deciduous so its midwinter foliage is brown). All connected by walkways, passages, lifts, tunnels, with open-air hot tubs carved from solid logs. Staff heat the tubs (wood burning stoves) and serve you Pisco sour as you stew looking up at the trees."

What a fantastic weekend! In the mornings we had the glacier to
ourselves for 15 hours of first rate tuition in good snow conditions.
Far more of the ski area was open than I'd expected, with the chance to ski off piste as well as on piste. The afternoons were spent doing via ferrata and white water rafting, and soaking up the sunshine over a chilled beer or two. Then dinner back at the hotel's gourmet restaurant. Only one day off work but it felt like a week. Good value too, with the lift pass, tuition, transfers and half board accommodation all included in the price. I'll definitely be booking another Snoworks weekend.

Chile, 7 Volcanoes Adventure
Well, where to begin on this epic Snoworks tour of the volcanoes of Chile. There are 200 volcanoes in Chile alone, we were attempting to summit 7 in 18 days. A massive task which depended more on good weather, fitness and a bit of luck. We flew with Air Canada from Heathrow London via Toronto to Santiago, Chile and then on using a local flight to Temuco, central Chile, arriving around 5pm on Saturday 30th August.
Saturday 30th August, Day 2.
We were warmly greeted by our Amity Tour hosts, Cristian, his dad Alejandro and Guido our genial Swiss mountain guide (now living in Chile). Ah! it felt good to be back in Chile once again with such friendly people. We quickly loaded up Alejandro's minibus and after 2 hours arrived at Corralco lodge deep in the heart of the Araucania region of Central Chile whose native 'monkey puzzle' trees (Araucaria araucana) are allowed to grow wild (under massive Government protection) and can be up to 300 years old! (don't touch the branches - they are razor sharp!)

While being an adventure trip, I feel my skiing has improved massively through the various short and sweet clinic sessions on rainy days (which Lee, Gareth and Guido porned off like car-salesmen!). I now feel more confident off piste and, looking at the video footage and photos, I don't look half bad! After my post skiing blues I'm now really looking forward to my next ski course.

Chile, 7 Volcanoes Adventure
Great snow, perfect weather! Makes it all worthwhile… There was nice skinning up the ridges and then once on the steep the terrain turned to slightly wind affected dunes and ice. The last 400m vert on the mountain is wind ice structures and glacial seracs with a huge ice cornice on the last 15 metres. We left the skis and my splitboard and started up with crampons and ice axes. Guido found a small snow pass/couloir to get through the cornice and we roped up for the climb up.
View from the top was amazing, looking north you could see all the way to Vocano Villarrica and then name all the other volcanoes that we had climbed, plus loads more for future expeditions. The Volcano was also surrounded by huge lakes and looking west you could see all the way to the mountain in front of the Argentinian ski town, Bariloche.
The ski down was incredible! Perfect powder, nice gradient, long untouched bowls and ridges! We left the summit at 4:30 and started skiing at 5pm........

A huge thanks to Lee, Gareth, Guido, Cristian and the rest of
the Amity team for their hard work and endless enthusiasm in providing an unforgettable holiday that far exceeded my expectations. Whether skiing powder on a volcano or between the trees, carving in the rain, practicing 180s and tip-rolls under the chairlift, or walking up Mocho volcano in a howling gale and almost zero visibility (and Lonquimay under glorious blue skies and sunshine), they managed to inspire, encourage and entertain us at all times (I think we managed to entertain them fairly well too with some of our efforts!) Add to that beautiful scenery, fabulous hotels, plenty of hot tubs and pisco sours, and I found my previous reservations about the ratio of skiing to travelling time on the trip were soon put to rest. This truly is an experience of a lifetime, well-organised and great fun from start to finish.

In 2003, by chance, an ex school teacher (and very good off piste skier) bumped into me at the airport and insisted I go on a snoworks holiday. "Brilliant" he said, "do It" - so I did - now, 4 years later, I have new friends, skied 35-40 degree couloirs in St Anton

Phil Smith, great off piste skiing with John Arnold, Torben Gregerson and many other top mountain guides. I will soon be off to Chile/Argentina to ski 5 volcanoes! - what more can I say - if it worked for me, it will work for you - go on, book now. - you'll not regret it.
