Off-Piste Course Details

Get Away From The Crowds

For level 4's that are venturing away from the piste for the first time a few simple skills can have you skiing competently off piste in no time at all. Snoworks off piste for level 5's and 6's opens up the whole mountain giving access to endless new experiences.

Richard Mansfield, Training Officer for the British Mountain Guides and full-time mountain guide in Chamonix was so impressed he commissioned Snoworks to run training purely for mountain guides to be exposed to the Snoworks philosophy.

Why is Snoworks so different in their approach to off-piste skiing?
The biggest difference with Snoworks is that we do not advocate learning a set off-piste technique. Our teaching is 'Open Skills' based. Off-piste skiing is an 'Open Sport'. The environment is constantly changing, like sailing, surfing or even driving a car. Therefore your technique has to also be changing constantly. For more information on open environments and skills check out off piste skiing on the Snoworks Blog.

Instructor or Guide?
Say goodbye to deciding whether to employ an instructor or a guide. On an iSKI off piste course, we take care of both. Not only do you learn the skills for off-piste, we also search out the best slopes with the added advantage of knowing exactly your ability level so can select the best and most appropriate slopes ensuring success is combined with challenge.

Levels

Off-Piste courses are for Levels 4 to 6. We have between 4 to 6 groups running on most weeks so there is plenty of scope to cater for all levels. Level 4s may have no prior off-piste experience, it's your first adventure away from the piste. 5 you can ski most places off-piste and 6 you can ski everywhere competently at a good speed. If unsure about your level contact our office and we can advise.Safety
Safety is our number 1 priority. Every member of every group is required to wear a backpack with essential off piste safety equipment including transciever, shovel and probe. Competence at companion rescue is essential and this will be trained and practiced througout the course along with other essential safety skills.

If you fancy total immersion take a look at the Backcountry courses. Click Backcountry under the iSKI Courses drop down menue.

Until this course, I had only scratched the surface of what the new generation of ski equipment allows you to do. It was nothing short of a revelation.

Snoworks made many concepts of skiing off-piste much clearer which translated into an immediate improvement in my confidence and ability.
