Have you ever thought of race training for fun? The speed, the excitement, the challenge! If you are really determined to improve your skiing then there is no better way than to take a week pre-season and get stuck into the gates.
Race training develops the skills of skiing like no other discipline in skiing... and you don't have to be a world cup racer. From our level 4 upwards, as long as you like a bit of speed, then you will love race training.
There are things that you will be formally taught on a race training course. Skills such as; using your edges to steer, adjusting the 'edge angle' to vary the radius of the turn, controlling pressure to increase or decrease speed, understanding ski design, how to control emotions and selecting a line.
But a great amount of learning will come from what we call 'output oriented learning'. As your mind is taken up with steering your skis through the gates, your subconscious is taken up with the 'real' job of improving your skiing. All the adjustments needed to control your skis accurately are learnt at a subconscious level. A bit like a child learning to walk. Imagine how a child would walk if we taught them! They would look like a robot trying to mimic the instructor. Ring any bells? With 'output oriented learning' such as race training you move in order to achieve something resulting in completely natural looking skiing. You'll improve more then you have ever done in the past and you wont even know how.
....and at the end of the week, 'Race Day'. GS with electronic timiing. A chance to pit your skills against the course and yourself. Great fun and the only people that take it seriously are our instructors! - and yes Emma, our 4-time Olympian and Snoworks instructor usually wins (we let her!).
The same velocity on a normal piste would have your pants running away in terror.
