Gap Courses Autumn 2010
gap courses, skiing gap courses, ski instructor training
October 23rd to December 18th 2010

Weekly Timetable
The timetable will vary depending on snow conditions and individual needs.

Week 1 - Technical Development
During week 1 students will be immersed into Technical Development. This is concerned with developing a full range of all movements and breaking free from any old habits that can hinder development. For more information on the technical aspects of performance see AT Performance, All Terrain or order the Ultimate Control DVD. Snoworks specialises in 'All Mountain Skiing'. This week will give a thorough insight into the skills required for skiing in control everywhere. For more information on the Snoworks Philosophy see:
Open Environments & All Mountain Skiing
Ski Performance Judged or Measured

Phil Smith & Lee Townend go through 'The Movements'. Week 1 Technical.

Week 2 - Race
During week 2 students will be immersed into 'Race Training'. This proves to be one of the most popular parts of the whole Gap Course. Race training is a fast track method to develop performance, developing a whole host of skills at the subconscious level. Week 2 culminates in Race Day, a chance to test you skills against the clock and your peers! For BASI level 1 & 2 no race experience is required. However if students wish to further their skiing career then race training is a must.

Week 3 - The Fundamentals, The Central Theme and Personal Development
Week 3 is spent in preparation for the BASI Level 1 exam. This includes a thorough investigation in the BASI syllabus including understanding all the 'Fundamental Elements' as used by BASI and their coordination into a model of skill development (The Central Theme) that can be applied from beginners to experts. This week also looks at all the teaching tools that will be needed for the level 1 course.

Week 4 - BASI Level 1 Instructors Course
Week 4 involves the official training from the British Association of Snowsport Instructors. The level 1 Instructors Course is the entry into the BASI system and will qualify you to teach skiing on artificial ski slopes and snow domes in the UK. 5 full days training from Monday to Friday culminating in an action plan for further development prior to the Level 2 Ski Instructor training and Assessment. This course may take part in either Zermatt or Tignes. All travel to and from Zermatt, H/B accommodation and ski pass is included.

IMPORTANT
Candidates who are unsuccessful at the Level 1

For candidates who are unsuccessful at Level 1, the program will be modified accordingly. You may be able to take a Level 1 resit within 2 weeks and if successful you will still be able to attend the final Level 2 examination on weeks 7 & 8. If you are unable to resit the Level 1 prior to the Level 2, the final two weeks of the Gap programme will be spent on personal development culminating in a Level 1 resit. The level 2 can be taken at a later date at your own expense.
