Norway Backcountry Adventure, April 16 2017

A spectacular Backcountry Access trip to the fjords of Norway in the Lyngen Alps. Land of the midnight sun and the northern lights. No lifts, just pure Backcountry. It’s a trip for hardened backcountry skiers that enjoy putting in hard work to earn those off piste descents and what descents they are, spectacular. The area has no lift access so it’s sweat, glory and lasting memories of an epic weeks backcountry skiing.

The Base
We stay in a hamlet called Svensby on the coast, located one hour’s drive from Tromso airport. The lodges are comfortable with free wifi and a rustic feel. Each has a living area and kitchen with wood burning stoves. On the site there is a jacuzzi and sauna, and you can have a refreshing dip in the sea if you are brave enough, all designed to loosen those muscles after a hard days work! There are local food sources from fisherman and farmers where the lodge staff will buy produce. Enjoy evening barbeques with the sun still high and spectacular backdrops.

The Skiing
We will be planning day tours with ascents lasting in the region of 5 to 6 hours with descents in between. Transport will take us to and from our planned routes each day.

Routes include but are not limited to:
Rørnestinden – 1041 metres
You can reach Rørnestinden directly from Lyngseidet and from the top are full views over Lyngenfjord and Kjosen fjords. This tour has intermediate level accessibility with some steeper sections.

Steitinden- 920 metres
The route to Steitinden starts from Sør-Lenangen. The level of difficulty is easy/moderate and it can be a good introduction to tours in the Lyngen Alps.

Storgalten 1219 metres
A very popular mountain in the northern part of Lyngen. You start in Nord-Lenangen. The tracks up to the top are often well laid and the ascent takes 3-4 hours. A choice of descents from the top.

All routes are weather dependent and will be confirmed on a daily basis.

TESTIMONIALS
It’s safe say this was my best ski trip ever. From stunning views of the Lyngen Alps, fabulous snow, driving along the coastline to take a boat trip to the tours to great accommodation, everything was fabulous. We were blessed with great weather and skiing right down to the sea on bluebird days was just breath-taking. I always enjoy a bit of a challenge and good exercise but I think the amount of time spent on skinning up was reasonable for the rewards. There were so many special moments but I would say taking a ferry to a little island of Uloya and getting to the top of the mountain to see blue skies, turquoise sea and dozens of little islands around and then skiing down to the shore would make a top of a Bucket List of any skier. What was very special about this trip was the remoteness of the place, relaxed atmosphere and, at the same time, how well organised the trip was by Snoworks. Ric Potter and Nick were both great guides and good fun. Skiing right to the sea in remote mountains behind the Arctic Cycle, what more could you wish for?

“Awesome trip! Have your best gear and smile on this is going to be a phototastic opportunity! Great Snoworks team and guides. Blessed with bluebird skies and good spring snow, the skin ups and the ski downs were spectacular. Arriving on a beach in a fishing boat to start an ascent, having lunch with a three sixty degree view of mountains and sea, taking the ferry home at the end of the day with a half a dozen gnarly looking mountaineers fresh off a film shoot, finishing an epic day by skiing to the beach and having a dip in the sea, eating moose for dinner, toasting your toes in front of the wood burner in your hut, exploring remote Scandi villages, this trip was amazing from start to finish!  Go, enjoy, but take your light weight kit and GoPro and don’t post any pics in the Facebook page – I don’t want to see what a great time I’m missing out on this year!”

I love a snoworks adventure! So when the opportunity came to head to Norway I was more than interested I was going.
Ric Potter and Nic Quinn fantastic guides and hosts the itinerary choices were superb and the fun and laughs amongst a great crew never stopped.
Do not miss the chance to head to another frontier with Snoworks you will not regret it.

“From the many days of great skiing with snoworks, the days in Norway rate as the best. The scenery is spectacular, and the snow is consistent from top to bottom, right down to the sea! Rick, the guide, set a wonderful easy pace for the skinning, and although in 6 days there was 6600m of ascent, it did not feel like it.
“The Tafeltinden day tour was an unbeatable experience; loading skis on to a boat, 15 minute trip along the coast, before landing on a deserted beach to start the climb. After the initial ascent, a longer skin along the glacier, before the final ascent to the top, and then the long, long ski back down to the village where the whole adventure began. Look at the videos, they are a wonderful record of a great skiing adventure.”
