Ski South America Adventure. August 6 to 19 2017
In 2003 we headed to South America for our first ever Snoworks Ski Adventure. Snoworks have run Ski Adventures in conjunction with Amity Tours almost every year since. The scenery is spectacular, the volcanoes stunning, the hospitality overwhelming. In 2017 we have our most exiting trip to date.

DAY 03 AUG 08 / SKIING IN LONQUIMAY VOLCANO, ON PISTE & OFF PISTE SKIING
Ski Corralco reaching every corner in powerful snowmobiles used for transport along with the lifts and skins if you choose to take them. The view from Lonquimay is absolutely stunning, overlooking the peaks of the Andean Araucanía, such as Sierra Nevada and Llaima volcano, as well as more distant landmarks like Lanín volcano to the south. You’ll have a vast ski domain to go off-piste through valleys and gullies. Last year, Corralco invested a $12 million into a complete renovation, including a new hotel, restaurants and new lifts.

DAY 04 AUG 09 / SKI CORRALCO, LONQUIMAY VOLCANO – OPTIONAL VOLCANO CLIMB
Skiing on and off-piste using the local lift system or if you are up for it a ski tour to the summit of Lonquimay Volcano. Get ready for something really special. The crater is spectacular and the scenery stunning. Some time to take in this very special moment followed by an epic off-piste descent back down to the ski resort.

DAY 05 AUG 10 / SKI IN THE MORNING IN CORRALCO – DRIVE TO CAVIAHUE ARGENTINA
Ski on and off piste skiing using local uplift. For those that are interested, depending on the weather, there may be another opportunity to ascend the volcano using skins. But it will mean an early start. A late afternoon transfer to Caviahue in Argentina. Crossing the Andes Mountains is a unique experience!
DAY 06 AUG 11 / SKI CAVIAHUE SKI RESORT
Caviahue is by far our favorite ski resort in Argentina. They always have the best snow conditions in Argentina and it never gets crowded. It is located on the other side of Lonquimay volcano. You can see Chile and even ski into Chile. The village of Caviahue lies on the shores of Lake Agrio. The landscape is characterized by ancient Araucaria forests.
Photo: Heading up to the summits of Caviahue after the snowmobiles have taken us as high as possible. Spectacular scenery all around.
DAY 07, AUG 12 / SKI ALL DAY CAVIAHUE SKI RESORT, ASSISTED BY SNOWMOBILES
Get ready for a unique skiing experience in Caviahue. Our good friend and local guide “Caniche” will take us as high as his snowmobiles can go. We’ll go deep into the Andes mountains skiing the surrounding gullies and a thrilling off-piste decent into Chile.
DAY 08, AUG 13 / TRANSFER TO PUCON
A morning’s skiing in Caviahue followed by a transfer to Pucon in Chile.
DAY 09 AUG 14 / SKI PUCON & VILLERICA VOLCANO
If the weather permits we’ll have the unique experience of climbing to the summit of Villarrica volcano and reach the active crater. It’s an amazing achievement to arrive at the top. Take some time to enjoy the spectacular scenery and soak up the athmosphere then enjoy the off-piste descent all the way down. It’s a big climb to the top (6 hours). The center has 9 ski-lifts so we can get plenty more skiing in using the lift system if time permits. Return to Pucon and then in the evening we’ll enjoy a Southern style BBQ with our local guides.
DAY 10 AUG 15 / SKI IN THE MORNING – TRANSFER TO HUILO-HUILO
Ski in the morning using the local lift system in Pucon Ski Resort exploring the on and off-piste. Then we’ll go back to our hotel to check out and drive to Huilo-Huilo. After three hours we’ll arrive to the private protected wilderness area of Huilo Huilo. Upon our arrival, we can relax at outdoor hot tubs by the river. Here we’ll check in at the Nothofagus hotel, where we’ll enjoy dinner and lodging.
OPTION VILLERRICA CLIMB
If the conditions were not good the day before to climb Villerrica Volcano we can attempt the climb today. An earlier start followed by a later departure.
Phil Smith, director of Snoworks Ski Courses – “After travelling across the whole world in search of amazing skiing experiences Huilo Huilo is the destination that is right up at the top of my list. The forest, the skiing from the top of two volcanoes and the hotel. It is truly a unique experience”
DAY 11, AUG 16 / SKI MOCHO/CHOSHUENCO VOLCANOES CLIMB
Get ready for a ski adventure like no other. Today you’ll have the option of climbing and skiing from the top of two volcanoes. After an early morning breakfast we’ll take a 4×4 truck and go off road through the native forest until we reach the snow. Snowmobiles will be waiting to take us for an hour-long ride to a plateau at the base of both volcanoes. There are no ski lifts so skinning or hiking are the only ways to reach the top of both volcanoes. The views from the tops are absolutely amazing overlooking the Lanín and Villarrica volcanoes. To reach the summit of both is a tough task. For most guests getting to the top of Mocho is reward enough. The ski down is fantastic with unlimited options of routes.

DAY 12, AUG 17 / SKI MOCHO & CHOSHUENCO VOLCANOES
