Sneak In Some Extra Skiing Before The Start Of The Winter

Ever thought of skiing in October or November? Most people’s perception of the ski season is that it starts around the time Santa delivers his Christmas goodies but in Tignes skiing starts way before then. In fact skiing starts on October 18th and carries on every week throughout the autumn. Not only is autumn skiing relatively cheap there are other great benefits as well. You can improve your skiing before the winter starts and reap the rewards during your winter holiday with newly acquired control and greater skill. Imagine being able to cope with bumps, know what to do when the slope gets steeper or ice appears, be able to negotiate awkward terrain, narrow or crowded slopes and even cope when visibility goes and snow starts to fall. You can even learn the skills for off-piste skiing.

Tignes is blessed with being known as one of the most snow sure resorts in Europe. The height of the village itself is over 2,000m and the Grande Motte glacier provides skiing all year round with ample skiing for all levels. Once the early autumn snows arrives it’s even possible to ski all the way to the village of Val Claret.

Snoworks Ski Courses offer a complete autumn programme of ski courses.

ALL-TERRAIN COURSES

The All-Terrain course is designed to prepare you for your winter holiday. You can begin learning all the skills required to safely and confidently tackle all sorts of terrain.  The All-Terrain course will arm you with the knowledge and skills to move around all marked runs on the mountain with confidence. From late November you can also learn the skills for off-piste skiing.

RACE CARVE COURSES

Race Carve is for adrenaline junkies. Skiers who like to pick up speed but still have the skill to do so in a safe manner. It takes place on reserved pistes dedicated for race training and is a combination of developing skills for carving and general skiing along with putting those skills to the test through a race course. There’s even an end of week race against the clock with fellow race carvers.

JUNIOR RACE COURSES

The secret of a great family holiday is making sure the kids are well looked after, enjoying themselves and doing something worthwhile. Junior Race is for children who are competent on red runs and looking for the next challenge in skiing. Racing provides exceptionally strong foundations from which to build new skills. Whilst the kids are on Junior Race the adults can be having a holiday themselves taking part on race carve or all-terrain courses.

FAST TRACK TO INSTRUCTOR COURSES

An 8 week course culminating in the first and second level UK ski instructor award. Successful students can then source work as a ski instructor for the winter. Previous years have seen successful trainees travel all over the world teaching skiing even as far afield as Japan.

BUMPS COURSES – From November 29th

A course dedicated to mastering the nemesis of the intermediate skier, the ‘bump’. How great to be able to ski around all the pistes not worrying if the slope will become steeper, icier or there’ll be bumps lurking around the corner. Coping with bumps is not such a mystery and is certainly not as difficult as made out. With a few simple skills you could be well on the way to enjoying them.

OFF-PISTE – From November 29th

The early winter snow arrives and the whole of the Espace Killy opens up. The Espace Killy is widely known as being an off-piste paradise. If you’re a competent red run skier and reasonably capable then you can easily learn the skills for off-piste and fear not it doesn’t have to be like the movies jumping out of helicopters and launching yourself off a near vertical precipice. Off-Piste skiing can be enjoyed on relatively gentle terrain and there’s nothing like the feeling of getting away from the crowds.
