What Will The Snoworks Team Be Skiing On This Winter?

Phil Smith Snoworks Director reports

Skis
It’s the year to go big and fat. I could not resist the new Salomon BBR’s. What a radical shape and the colour, wow! The BBR’s come in 2 shapes both with an oversized, surfboard shaped tip for floatation in soft snow combined with a narrow tail and short radius sidecut for carving. I’ve gone for the BBR 8.9, 88mm underfoot with a 13.5m sidecut radius.  So it’s an all-terrain ski for All-Terrain courses. But this is going to be great in the deep. The size of the tip is a massive 147mm. That’s bigger than most of the out and out off-piste skis.

Lee Townend must have got a heads up on the long-range snow forecast. His skis are enormous. The Salomon Rocker 2. Wait for it – 122mm underfoot with a 26m sidecut radius. Go Lee! He’ll also have his trusted Lords in reserve for all-terrain and the Shoguns for just plain deep off-piste! The Lords continue to be a perfect all-round ski and this year with new cosmetics.

Emma Carrick-Anderson as always will be on her favourites – The Lady’s. This ski just continues to impress her with their all-round capability but she has added the latest Geisha to her quiver for when it gets deep. Emma absolutely swears by her Lady’s and can recommend them for anyone looking for an all-terrain ski.

Mike Barker will be sporting the Twenty Twelve. A relation of the great Ten Eighty. A more centrally mounted binding for the park and pipes.  Mike’s obviously looking to have some fun on his skis this season!

Pro Courses and Race
For the race training and instructor training in the autumn, we’ll be kitted up with the Salomon 3V’s (Slalom), 2V’s (Giant Slalom) and I also fancy the latest Enduros, designed for off-piste capability combined with carving.

Boots
As always we’ve all gone for precision. The boots connect you to the skis and the mountain so none of us can break away from straightforward technology: 4 clips with good stiffness and support. We’ve all opted for the X3 130 flex. That’s pretty stiff so if your looking for something with a little less performance the X3 also comes in a 70, 100 and 120 flex. In the autumn we’re all racing and our reputations are at stake so a stiff boot is definitely needed. Lee and myself also have the Salomon Quest for our Adventure trips. The Quest comes with a vibram sole so nice and sticky for any climbing.  Nothing worse than sliding backwards down a volcano in race boots!

Technical Specs
All models come in different sizes except the 3V and 2V where one size fits all.
