ADV Ski Kyrgyzstan

In true Snoworks style join us for a stunning back country touring adventure in this virtually undiscovered area of central Asia.  New for 2017, Kyrgyzstan is a rugged country along the famous Silk Road - the ancient trade route between China and the Mediterranean - bordered by China, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.  The Tian Shan mountains which surround the old caravan route are home to fantastic wildlife such as snow leopards and lynx.  This is a ski touring adventure with a unique chance to discover the raw beauty of this country staying in traditional yurts in the heart of the mountains.

Our ski tour will be based in Suusamyr and Terskey Ala-Too, situated between two mountain ranges, the Kyrgyz range and Suusamyr-Too with altitudes from 2200m up to the highest peaks of 4500m.  This area offers a huge choice of descents with different exposures, lengths of descent and altitude.  For skiing the area provides stable weather conditions with very little wind and snow cover from early November through to late March with depths up to 2.5m.

The Base
For the majority of our adventure we will be staying in the heart of the Terskey Alatoo mountains at 2700m with a unique opportunity to experience the traditional Kyrgyz mountain lifestyle in a ski yurt camp.  The camp consists of several Kyrgyz yurts and a removable hot sauna.  Transfer to the slopes will be by snowmobile.

A Yurt is the traditional dwelling for the nomads of central Asia.  The local yurts are portable, sturdy, round felt covered tents and can be set up by a family within 4/5 hours.  The walls are wooden lattice, attached to the roof by curved poles.  There is a circular opening in the roof to let sunlight in and smoke escape.  This is basic tent accommodation in mixed sex shared yurts, with 4 people per yurt, there will be a shared toilet and dining tent for the camp.
