Backcountry with touring skis

Nestled in the Spanish Pyrenees is the purpose built resort of Baqueira Beret. Virtually undiscovered by British skiers, popular with the locals and a resort frequently visited by the Spanish royal family. The village has a unique charm with Catalan cuisine in the form of tapas bars and restaurants.

Ranging from 1500m at village level to a top lift at 2516m, it enjoys fantastic and reliable snow cover, with 146km of long pisted runs, easily accessible off piste and some challenging couloirs.

We had an incredible week of skiing in Spain. None of the locals ski off piste and so we had untracked white madness all week. It had to be the deepest, fluffiest snow that I have ever skied in 70 odd weeks of skiing: challenging couloirs, open pastures and never ending drops into remote locations where an old monastery prepared a truly rustic lunch over an open fire. This little haven is only accessible by snowmobile and so we had to be towed back into the lift system afterwards. Great experience!

The hotel offered amazing Spanish fare all week, the local guides have a wicked sense of humour and impeccable English, only surpassed by the performance of the Snoworks instructors

Heliskiing option available

We work with Ski Inspired who have the local expertise to organise both accommodation, transfers, and touring ski hire.

We are based in the hotel Tuc Blanc, which has fantastic hospitality, comfortable rooms, and a position right opposite the slopes and ski lift. It offers a spa, indoor swimming pool, tapas bar and some of the best restaurants in the area.

NOTE: This Backcountry course is unique; you need touring skis and skins. A mix of short skins (up to an hour) and lift accessed off piste skiing are the basis for the week. There will be some skidoo tows and heliskiing options (weather dependent), there may also be some taxi collections. These are payable locally, costs range from €5-€8 for taxis, €15-€20 for tows and €200-€400 for heliskiing. (prices 2021)
