Course Details

Do you want a skiing adventure? Look no further than Georgia in 2025.  We will be based in the small hamlet of Bakhmaro.  A perfect powder location with accommodation sitting at 1950 metres surrounded by fabulous evergreen forests.  The slopes sit between 2100 metres and 2755 metres. No ski lifts, no commercialism, no night clubs, noisy bars or skiers trashing your tracks.  Just pure off piste skiing with access each day using a snowcat.

Expect to have between 10 – 15 pick ups each day, it is a vast area with a massive amount of skiing.

Skiing here will be above and amongst the treeline, perfect if the weather changes.  The routes here are not steep but the snow is very deep.

Note: There may be times when snowstorms make it impossible to access the slopes.  Be prepared for all conditions, from deep powder to spring snow conditions.

If you are an adventure skier this has to be at the top of your bucket list.

Minimum requirements for this course:

  • Competent off piste skiers (level 5)
  • Skiers who have a high level of fitness to ski all day off piste with a break for lunch
  • Skiers confident to ski for a week in deep snow and who are able to skin to some routes using touring equipment if needed
  • The ability to get up unaided after a fall is essential

Check your ski level here.

Resort Information

The Caucasus mountains cover 60% of the country, the highest mountain range in Europe stretching over 1200km.  There are many ski resorts but in true Snoworks fashion this is an adventure like no other. Stay in a secluded lodge in the heart of the mountains to take advantage of the untracked powder – one of the best kept secrets in Europe!

Georgia is relatively undiscovered by many travellers and even fewer skiers.  If it’s culture you’re interested in then Georgia has it in abundance. The oldest wine making nation with its own unique processes so be sure to sample some of this while you are there.  It also has some fantastically diverse cuisine influenced by Russia and Persia, with some Mediterranean dishes also on offer.  Each region has its own traditional dish.

It is a country with one of the most diverse ecologies in the world – climates from subtropical to alpine to semi desert.  The local people are hospitable and welcoming to visitors.

Accommodation:

For our fist week we will be based in ‘Pioneers’ Lodge in Bakhmaro, sharing with one other group.  All rooms have central heating, balcony and bathrooms.  There is also a lounge with an open fireplace, sauna and heated boot room.  Shared rooms are a mix of twins, triples/quads; these will be allocated depending on the breakdown of the group.

All meals are included  during our stay and are based around eastern European dishes.  The plentiful and varied food is prepared freshly each day, with trunks of food taken out each day for lunch.

Due to the location the power is generator based and there is a daily restriction of 6 hours.  Central heating is fuelled by local wood and nutshell briquettes.

FAQ's

I’m thinking of coming skiing by myself. Is a Snoworks course suitable for solo skiers?

Absolutely – 80% of Snoworks guests travel by themselves. This is the great thing about a Snoworks course. You can come by yourself knowing there will be many other skiers that you can ski with who are also travelling by themselves.

In fact many Snoworks clients who first came skiing by themselves have now met many other skiers that they are now friends with, it’s a great way to meet and ski with other like minded skiers.

We were very lucky with the weather whist in Bakhmaro. The fact that wind had destroyed the last snowfall, didn’t stop us finding great fresh tracks on almost every descent. The accommodation in Pioneer (PowderProject.ch) was far better than I expected in the middle of nowhere, even had underfloor heating in the room hallway and bathroom! Large spreads of food, no none was left hungry at any time. Great atmosphere in the bar after skiing. All the staff are excellent. The snowcat driver we had was excellent as was our guide and the Snoworks instructor (Dave) with the group was keeping an eye on everyone and handing out useful tips to everyone when necessary. We had 5 blue days and one snow day where we sink in deep pow in the beech forests with great visibility. All in all, a superb trip, well organised, fantastic terrain. Looking forward to returning!

For off-piste powder lovers this trip is epic! The size of the ski terrain is huge, with plenty of tree skiing for any bad weather days. Powderprojects, who Snoworks partner with, are great. The local Georgian staff are knowledgeable about the mountain, providing super hospitality. The Pioneers accommodation is modern, comfortable and provides fantastic local Georgian food (great for refuelling after a day mashing fresh tracks). If you like coffee stops this trip is not for you, but if you like awesome skiing, where you don’t have to compete for runs and fresh powder, then this trip is definitely worth while.

No Pistes, No Lifts, No cars, No Skinning, Just lots of untracked snow with a Cat to take us back to the top. The best week’s skiing I’ve had in over 50 years of skiing!!

Never in a million years would I have ever remotely imagined a trip to Georgia to go Cat Skiing, so a huge Thank You to the Snoworks crew for coming up with such an adventure and delivering such a memorable trip to such an isolated destination! The accommodation was brand new and cosy and the food was beyond compare – a huge tasty feast every night, and the very friendly team also did all they could to accommodate all of those with particular dietary restrictions. (I do wish I could have come home with a cookbook as well!) But the highlight, of course, was the skiing: our own private ski area the size of the Three Valleys, but home for the week to just a few small groups of fellow Cat skiers. The fact that we didn’t have a dump of the fabled Georgian powder but still managed fresh tracks run after run was a great reflection of the first-class guiding and instruction from Oliver and Dave. A real bucket-list trip that I do hope I get to repeat in the future! Thanks again Snoworks!
