Course Details

In true Snoworks style we have a fantastic opportunity to explore and ski in another new part of the world.  A ski touring adventure trip based in the stunning Tatra Mountains in Poland.

Why the Tatra Mountains?

Straddling the border between Poland and Slovakia, the Tatra Mountains are the highest range in the Carpathians — often referred to as the “Alps in miniature.” With rugged alpine terrain, remote valleys, and stunning winter scenery, they offer some of the most rewarding ski touring experiences in Central Europe. Despite their modest size, the Tatras pack in technical routes, powder descents, and a true backcountry feel.

The Polish Tatras offer a mix of classic and adventurous ski touring routes, from mellow valley ascents to steep couloirs and alpine traverses. Ski touring is suitable for intermediate to advanced skiers.  Terrain ranges from rolling meadows to exposed ridgelines and narrow descents.

While ski touring here feels wild and adventurous, rescue infrastructure (TOPR in Poland) is excellent.

Key areas include:

  • Kościelisko & Chochołowska Valley – gentle starts and access to summits like Grześ (1,653 m) or Starorobociański Wierch (2,176 m)
  • Kasprowy Wierch (1,987 m) – cable car assisted access to high alpine terrain
  • Dolina Pięciu Stawów (Valley of Five Lakes) – remote feel, perfect for hut-based ski touring
  • Szpiglasowy Wierch (2,172 m) and Zawrat Pass (2,159 m) – iconic crossings for experienced skiers

Day tours typically range from 600 to 1,200m of ascent per day, lasting between 4–8 hours depending on route and conditions.  We expect to be touring up to a height of 2200m.

Minimum requirements for this course:

  • Competent off piste skiers with experience in ski touring (level 5 and above)
  • Skiers who have a high level of fitness to ski all day off piste with a break for lunch
  • The ability to get up unaided after a fall is essential

FAQ's

I’m thinking of coming skiing by myself. Is a Snoworks course suitable for solo skiers?

Absolutely – 80% of Snoworks guests travel by themselves. This is the great thing about a Snoworks course. You can come by yourself knowing there will be many other skiers that you can ski with who are also travelling by themselves.

In fact many Snoworks clients who first came skiing by themselves have now met many other skiers that they are now friends with, it’s a great way to meet and ski with other like minded skiers.
