Fonna Race Camps, Norway, July 6th to 20th 2024

FIS & U16 RACE CAMPS IN FONNA, NORWAY

FIS skiers and U16 can join us this Summer for some exceptional race training on the Fonna Glacier in Norway.

COACHING
Coaching will be from Phil Smith, Emma Carrick-Anderson and assisted by Adam Hay from the British Ski Academy. Emma and Phil have been coaching their own boys, Luca, Freddy and Zak for the past 10 season. Emma and Phil are both renowned for their unconventional approach to race training. Phil having been an advocate of ‘Skiing Open’ for many years.

“Having been working in the off-piste environment for the past 20 years where every day is different, every run a new experience, every change of direction a one off, I have always wanted to see ski racing coached in a similar fashion. Ive been brought up surfing, one of the most open sports you could ever take part in where no two waves are ever the same, I longed for racers to express themselves the same way surfers do. Individually creative and adapting to the race course as it changes”
Phil Smith

“I loved my career ski racing and am now enjoying passing on my experience to my own children and other ski racers. At 15 I persuaded my parents to let me attend a racing academy in Austria. From there I rose to the pinnacle of ski racing, World Cups, Olympics and World Championships culminating in a career spanning 4 Olympic Games. I know what it takes to get to the top and have an eagle eye for technique. Im totally committed to helping every ski racer eek out the best from themselves”
Emma Carrick-Anderson

Unlike the central European glaciers you don’t have to get up at the crack of dawn. The lifts open at 0900 and stay open until 1600. Training is not all day. That would be too much. But we have flexibility to train when we want and the biggest bonus we have salt available to salt the training line. That means we can just keep on training and the racing line remains good.

For those who have been to Fonna previously it is heaven on earth with incredible training and views looking down to the Hardanger Fjord. We train until early afternoon then afternoons are spent ski tuning, fitness training and swimming in the unbelievably beautiful Fjord. Did we mention diving off the cliffs and the diving boards? This camp is without doubt our absolute favourite summer training destination.
